If you find this jacket on sale pick it up, bottom line! I am reviewing this for my wife, and also because I just picked up the "male" version of this jacket as well.
Wife absolutely loves this jacket and uses it year round. I absolutely agree with the other sizing comments, my wife is normally a size "small", but when I held it up in the store it looked like a child's jacket so I opted for the much larger size "Medium" and that seemed much more reasonable by eyeballing it. Lo and behold the Medium was just enough and if anything we could have gone bigger.
This jacket has seen all types of action, and yes it does serve the purpose of being waterproof. Not so sure if the omni-tech fabric is 100% even in an extreme downpour, but not alot of things are considering water always finds a way in. Jacket is passable for cold weather if you do some proper layering underneath, as it does a nice job breaking the cold wind. We always take this jacket hiking with us and it is comfortable for her to wear while on w/ a backpack (when we were up high in the Smokies) or if stuffed into her sack. It has also seen alot of abuse on the seams w/ a backpack full of books on walks from a parking garage to college classes and it seems to be holding up just fine, no visible wear & tear.
Last but not least, I am very happy with the way the jacket fits. Wife looks absolutely great in it, with a sporty/slim build, the jacket shapes well to her specific body type without turning into a shapeless blob/flowy tent.
I believe I've seen this jacket everywhere, so you could always try it on in a store and then purchase at Amazon later. It can be had for a great price when shopping out of season. I can see it being a difficult purchase at full price as there is lots of competition at that price level.
------------UPDATE 10-23-12-----------------
Just want to update. My wife basically still uses this as her primary outdoor coat. No it's not nice enough to throw on if you need to be covered up at a formal event, but when we head outside for anything and it's cool or rainy out, she puts this on.
It's been packed and repacked probably a hundred times, haven't had any issues with staying dry.
This jacket does have the same issues that alot of nylon shell coats do though, over time the exterior repellant coating fades away and your nylon coat starts to soak up water. This means you need to hang your coat to let it dry. I guess there is another water barrier beneath the outer shell that prevents it from getting completely through.

By JackTripleFly
My measurements are 49/46/50 and according to the size chart, I would be a 2x which was unusual for me since I'm usually just an xl on most brands. I went against the size chart and ordered just a 1x and it fits fine. A little snug around the hip line, but no restriction of movement or tightness whatsoever. So, go with your gut on what size you usually wear and you should be fine!

This jacket would have been great except it doesn't fit right - puffs out on top and bottom, but folds in at waist. I look like a penguin made of 2 big round snowballs! it's gotta go back.
